Sara awarded The University of Manchester Outstanding Alumni Award 2018

Sara was honoured to have been awarded the University of Manchester Outstanding Alumni Award on the 18th July 2018.  Having studied Master of Pharmacy at the university, graduating in 2002, Sara eventually left pharmacy to study human rights and went on to co-found Inspire, a women’s rights and counter-extremism organisation.  In January 2018, Sara was appointed to lead the new Commission for Countering Extremism as the Government’s first Counter-extremism Czar.

As detailed by the university of Manchester, outstanding Alumni Awards are presented to alumni who have achieved distinction in their profession, through exemplary service to the University or the wider community or outstanding service of a personal or humanitarian nature.

In her acceptance speech, Sara talked about her time at Manchester university, her work and career countering extremism and her role as Lead Commissioner for the Commission for Countering Extremism.  You can watch and listen to Sara’s speech here.

Sara is grateful to the University for recognising her achievements and for the wonderful hospitality shown to her and her family at the graduation ceremony throughout the day.
